Compatibility
Is TealSafe compatible with PalmOS 5? (100%) Yes. TealSafe is fully compatible with PalmOS 5.
Thanks, that helped! General
Can I create as many data stores as I like, or is there a hard-coded limit? (100%) Data Stores are limited only by available system memory.
Thanks, that helped!
Can I create data stores on an external SD card? (100%) Not at present. Data Stores must reside in RAM where they are also most secure. Data stores are typically not very large, so any savings gained from moving Data Stores to an external device would be offset by the increased size of the TealSafe program were card support implemented. Incidentally, the TealSafe program itself *may* be run from an external card to save memory, if needed.
Thanks, that helped!
Can I view or edit TealSafe databases on my desktop? (100%) Yes. You can run TealSafe Desktop for Windows PC, a separate application that is fully file compatible the handheld versions of TealSafe.
Thanks, that helped! Installation
When I download and run TealSafe Desktop, it doesn't stay on my machine; no shortcuts appear in the Windows Start menu. (100%) The TealSafe.exe download is not an installer; it's the program itself. When you download it, you should save it to a convenient location, such as your Windows Desktop. From there, you can run it directly, or manually make start menu shortcuts by right-clicking on the program and using the windows "create shortcut" menu.
Thanks, that helped! Troubleshooting
When I try to view data stores on my new handheld that I've installed from my old one, all the old entries are coming up jumbled. (100%) The encrypted data format between newer OS5 (ARM) handhelds use a different byte-order from older OS3/4 (Dragonball) handhelds. Before transferring data from an old device to a new, convert any databases to unencrypted format first. You can then export the files to the new handheld and re-encrypt them. If an older device is not available, you can load the databases into the PalmOS Emulator (not the Simulator) and export them afterwards to do the same thing. Just make sure you set the HotSync User Name in the simulator to the same as the original device.
Thanks, that helped!
When I reinstalled TealSafe after a hard reset, all my entries say local password but selecting a record does not prompt for a password. (100%) TealSafe imbeds the password verification information within each encrypted file. The program shows the password as "global" if it matches the current global password, and "local" if it does not, but the passwords are stored the same way. The global password is also stored separately as a record in the PalmOS preferences database, so the global password is not restored by simply reinstalling the program. Try resetting the global password to the same password used before the reinstall, and the matching entries should change from "local" to "global."
Thanks, that helped!
I upgraded to a new device and copied over my databases, but some of them won't open up. (100%) Make sure you've also copied over your "TealSafe Templates" database. Without it, any databases that use customized layouts cannot open.
Thanks, that helped!
When I "synchronize" in TealSafe Desktop, the operation completes but I'm not seeing any handheld data. (100%) You must first run the same "synchronize" operation in the handheld version of the program, setting the "sync to" picklist to "TealSafe Desktop."
For PalmOS, next perform a HotSync, making sure your Backup/System conduit in HotSync is set to "Handheld overwrites desktop."
For Windows Mobile, just plug in your device to your PC and make sure ActiveSync connects with it before running the data sync on the Desktop app.
Thanks, that helped! Usage
How do I print data from TealSafe? (100%) If you want to print out a copy of a data record, you can use the "export
data item to memo" menu in the data store view. This can then be printed
using TealPrint or synced to the desktop and printed using the Palm desktop.
Thanks, that helped!
